The pub version: no slides, no CV.

Hi, I’m Antonio.

Engineer by training, tinkerer by nature. I studied aerospace engineering in Milan, at the Politecnico, and then spent a year in Belgium at the von Karman Institute teaching computers how to design turbine blades. Yes, it’s exactly as nerdy as it sounds.

These days I write engineering software for turbines at SoftInWay. The rest of the time goes into ZetaLabs: drones that spray fields, WORK, the app that keeps those missions organised, and WIRE, a small engineering studio. There’s also corporateHUB, an idea to bring companies back to a village in the hills of Campania.

I like problems that are real, a bit messy and slightly too big. Buy me a beer and I’ll tell you about any of them. Or ask me about planes, which is usually where the conversation ends up anyway.

I’m studying for my private pilot licence. Years of equations taught me how a wing works; now I want to know how it feels. These are the nine theory subjects I’m working through before the exam.

  1. 01Air LawAviation regulations, ICAO standards, airspace classifications and flight rules.
  2. 02Aircraft General KnowledgeAirframe, engines, electrical systems, instruments and aircraft limitations.
  3. 03Flight Performance & PlanningMass and balance, performance calculations and flight planning procedures.
  4. 04Human Performance & LimitationsAviation physiology, decision making, crew resource management and stress factors.
  5. 05MeteorologyWeather systems, atmospheric phenomena, METARs, TAFs and weather hazards.
  6. 06NavigationCharts, dead reckoning, radio navigation, GPS and flight computer usage.
  7. 07Operational ProceduresEmergency procedures, wake turbulence, noise abatement and aerodrome operations.
  8. 08Principles of FlightAerodynamics, lift, drag, stability, control surfaces and flight mechanics.
  9. 09CommunicationsVFR radiotelephony, phraseology, transponder codes and communication procedures.
